Galapagos Itinerary: 14 Days Across Three Islands
Two weeks in the islands, with time for highlands, snorkeling and a day without plans.

THE SHORT ANSWER
For a 14-day Galapagos itinerary, we suggest 13 hotel nights: three on San Cristóbal, four on Santa Cruz, five on Isabela and a final night back on Santa Cruz. Arrive at San Cristóbal Airport and depart from Baltra. This suggested land-based route adds four nights to our 10-day example without adding inter-island moves. It counts 14 days in the islands; international travel and mainland stays need separate time.
A two-week route with three island bases
This Galapagos island-hopping itinerary follows San Cristóbal → Santa Cruz → Isabela → Santa Cruz. You stay on three islands but make four hotel stays because you return to Santa Cruz before the Baltra flight. Passenger-boat transfers fall on days four, eight and thirteen.
The extra time goes into the islands you already visit. Santa Cruz has separate days for its highlands, one offshore excursion and an independent outing. Isabela has room for a snorkeling trip, a highland walk, a local day and a full day left free.
Use this as a starting point for a personal proposal. The daily plan below suggests activities; it is not a fixed departure or a list of already reserved services. If boat travel is a concern, ask about spending the same two weeks on fewer bases.
| Stay | Overnight base | Nights | Full days between transfers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nights 1–3 | Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, San Cristóbal | 3 | Days 2 and 3 |
| Nights 4–7 | Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz | 4 | Days 5, 6 and 7 |
| Nights 8–12 | Puerto Villamil, Isabela | 5 | Days 9, 10, 11 and 12 |
| Night 13 | Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz | 1 | Final overnight before the Baltra connection |
Your 14-day Galapagos itinerary, day by day
Keep arrival, departure and island-change days light. The proposed major outings each have their own day, and the order can change once flights, operators and access are checked. Bartolomé and North Seymour are alternatives for one excursion, not two visits on the same day.
| Day | Suggested plan | Overnight |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrive at San Cristóbal Airport (SCY) and transfer to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Settle in; consider the waterfront or Playa Mann if time allows. | San Cristóbal |
| 2 | Proposed Kicker Rock snorkeling excursion. Make this the main outing of the day, after checking swimming confidence, conditions and operator arrangements. | San Cristóbal |
| 3 | Explore the San Cristóbal highlands. Discuss El Junco and the Cerro Colorado tortoise center as the selected stops; leave time for the walks and road journey. | San Cristóbal |
| 4 | Passenger-boat crossing to Santa Cruz, then transfer to your Puerto Ayora hotel. Keep the rest of the day flexible. | Santa Cruz |
| 5 | A dedicated Santa Cruz highlands day, with a tortoise site chosen in the proposal. Discuss the walking involved and any other stops before reserving. | Santa Cruz |
| 6 | One proposed offshore excursion: Bartolomé OR North Seymour. Your quote names the selected destination and its activities. | Santa Cruz |
| 7 | An independent day: consider Tortuga Bay if its walking demands suit you, or stay closer to Puerto Ayora. Additional guiding or transport is a separate request. | Santa Cruz |
| 8 | Passenger-boat crossing to Isabela and transfer to Puerto Villamil. Settle in without a major excursion scheduled. | Isabela |
| 9 | Proposed Los Túneles excursion from Isabela. Confirm the boat outing, snorkeling arrangements and equipment for your group. | Isabela |
| 10 | A full day left free. Enjoy time in Puerto Villamil at your own pace; no organized excursion is assumed in this outline. | Isabela |
| 11 | Proposed Sierra Negra highland walk, or a shorter land alternative agreed in advance. Confirm the current route, guiding and expected effort. | Isabela |
| 12 | A local land outing around Puerto Villamil and its lagoons. A tortoise-center visit can be discussed if available; this is not another assumed boat excursion. | Isabela |
| 13 | Return by passenger boat to Santa Cruz. Stay in Puerto Ayora for the final night, ahead of the next day’s airport connection. | Santa Cruz |
| 14 | Travel across Santa Cruz, cross the Itabaca Channel and continue to Baltra Airport (GPS) for your confirmed mainland flight. | No hotel night |
10 or 14 days: what do four extra nights change?
Both examples use the same three island bases, arrive through San Cristóbal and finish through Baltra. The 14-day route adds two nights to the first Santa Cruz stay and two to Isabela. San Cristóbal keeps its three nights, and Santa Cruz keeps the final overnight before departure.
On Santa Cruz, the longer stay adds a dedicated highlands day and an independent day alongside the offshore excursion. On Isabela, it separates Los Túneles, a highland walk and a local land outing, with a free day between them. You gain more time ashore without a fourth island to reach.
Choose ten days if the shorter three-island outline fits your available time and preferred pace. Choose fourteen if you want these additional days within Galapagos. A shorter trip with two bases may still be the better fit if reducing boat travel matters more than visiting all three islands.
| Planning detail | 10 days / 9 nights | 14 days / 13 nights |
|---|---|---|
| San Cristóbal first stay | 3 nights | 3 nights |
| Santa Cruz first stay | 2 nights | 4 nights |
| Isabela stay | 3 nights | 5 nights |
| Santa Cruz final stay | 1 night | 1 night |
| Inter-island hotel moves | 3 | 3 |
| Full days on the first Santa Cruz stay | 1 | 3 |
| Full days on Isabela | 2 | 4 |
Use the extra days for a pace you will enjoy
A Galapagos land-based itinerary can combine active days with time on your own. Here, Kicker Rock and Los Túneles are the main proposed snorkeling outings. Discuss confidence in open water, getting into and out of boats, and the group’s preferences before making either a priority. A land alternative should be planned for anyone who does not want to snorkel.
Walking also needs attention. Tortuga Bay is an independent option, but independent does not mean effortless. Sierra Negra needs its own discussion of the current route, trail conditions and expected walking. We have not assumed a fixed distance or an extension to Volcán Chico in this outline.
Day ten is deliberately free. It can remain a day with no appointments rather than becoming another paid excursion. Extra time may create options if arrangements change, but a free day does not guarantee a replacement boat, permit or guide.
For families or travelers with different energy levels, tell us which outings everyone wants to share and where interests differ. More nights can make space for those choices. They do not guarantee wildlife sightings or calm sea conditions.
Match your flights to the island order
This plan starts at San Cristóbal Airport (SCY) on day one and ends at Baltra Airport (GPS) on day fourteen. Check the airport names before buying mainland–island flights. If your flights already use different airports, send the details so the route can be adjusted.
Three inter-island hotel moves do not mean only three boat rides. Excursion boats, local embarkation arrangements and the Itabaca Channel crossing are separate parts of the journey. Ask the proposal to identify each airport, hotel and pier connection.
Returning to Santa Cruz on day thirteen avoids depending on an Isabela crossing on the morning of the Baltra flight. It reduces that particular connection risk; transport disruption can still happen. Check the final road, channel and airport arrangements against your flight schedule.
Two weeks in Galapagos or two weeks for the whole holiday?
If you have 2 weeks in Galapagos, this outline gives you thirteen hotel nights within the islands. Time in Quito or Guayaquil, international flights and any mainland sightseeing sit outside those fourteen days.
If you have fourteen days in total from leaving home to returning, work backward from your international flights and mainland connections. The ten-day island example or a shorter five-, seven- or eight-day route may fit better. A mainland-and-Galapagos holiday cannot include this full fourteen-day island plan within the same fourteen-day total.
When you inquire, tell us what your dates include. “Fourteen days in Ecuador” and “fourteen days after landing in Galapagos” lead to different proposals.
What to request in a 14-day trip proposal
Ask for a single proposal for the complete route, with hotels, activities and connections listed separately enough to compare them. Start with your dates, travelers, room arrangements and overall budget. Identify the two or three experiences you would most like to keep.
The activity outline has seven proposed organized blocks on days two, three, five, six, nine, eleven and twelve. Day seven is an independent option and day ten is free. Your proposal should confirm which blocks are selected, their availability status, the chosen alternatives, and what guiding, meals and equipment each includes.
There is no fixed selling price attached to this suggested itinerary. Do not multiply a ten-day price by 14/10: hotel nights, excursions, room occupancy and seasonal availability affect the total differently. Request the total trip price and any per-person breakdown for the actual group.
| Part of the journey | What your written proposal should specify |
|---|---|
| 13 hotel nights | Hotel and room names, beds, occupancy, breakfast, taxes and cancellation terms for each of the four stays. |
| Arrival and departure connections | San Cristóbal arrival transfer and all road, channel and airport legs for the Baltra departure. |
| 3 inter-island moves | Boat service, luggage arrangements, pier and hotel connections, and any separately payable local charges. |
| Selected activities | One named destination for day six; operator, guiding language, equipment, meals, access and conditions for each reserved outing. |
| Independent and free days | Any optional services you actually request. Do not assume a guide accompanies you throughout all fourteen days. |
| Shared or private services | Which vehicles, guides or boats are exclusive to your party, and which services are shared. |
| Flights and other expenses | International and mainland–island flights, entry and transit charges, meals and personal expenses listed as included or excluded. |
| Total and booking terms | Currency, total for your group, quote validity, payment schedule and change or cancellation conditions. |

Before you decide
Is two weeks too long in Galapagos?
Two weeks can suit travelers who want three island bases with more days ashore and some free time. It need not mean fourteen days of organized excursions. If frequent boat travel is a concern, request the same duration with fewer bases.
How many hotel nights are in this 14-day itinerary?
Thirteen: three on San Cristóbal, five on Isabela and five on Santa Cruz. The Santa Cruz nights are split into four before Isabela and one before the Baltra departure.
How does this differ from the 10-day itinerary?
It adds two nights to the first Santa Cruz stay and two to Isabela. Both examples keep three inter-island hotel moves and the final night on Santa Cruz.
Does this include fourteen days of excursions?
No. Arrival, departure and transfer days count toward the fourteen days. The outline also keeps an independent day on Santa Cruz and a free day on Isabela. Your quote confirms the activities you choose to reserve.
Are Bartolomé and North Seymour both included?
No. Day six proposes one of them. Ask for the selected destination to be named in your proposal. Adding a second offshore excursion would change the plan and price.
Can I spend fourteen days on two islands instead?
Yes, you can request a longer stay with fewer bases. Use your preferred activities, flight airports and boat comfort to decide whether to keep or remove San Cristóbal from the outline.
Are mainland Ecuador and international flights part of these fourteen days?
No. Day one is arrival in Galapagos and day fourteen is departure from Galapagos. If your entire holiday is fourteen days, share the international dates so the island stay can be shortened accordingly.
Can I book this route for my travel dates?
Request a tailored proposal using the itinerary as a starting point. Hotels, excursions, transport, availability, total price and booking conditions are checked for your dates before you decide.
